In 2021, President Biden announced that he wanted to replace all federal government vehicles with “clean electric vehicles”. It’s a big challenge, and that’s before you consider all of the government agencies that are able to purchase vehicles through GSA. This includes state, local, and tribal governments, legislatures, and judiciaries, as well as state-owned corporations (like the U.S. Postal Service) and some nonprofit organizations. For most of these users, it makes sense to enlist the help of the GSA because they can get better prices on vehicles themselves or often receive federal assistance to pay for them.
Close. Biden: “The federal government also has a huge fleet of vehicles, which we’re going to replace with clean electric vehicles made right here in America, by American workers.”https://t.co/figJbDMrpt pic.twitter.com/racgwk9VGw

While it may not be possible to electrify all federal government vehicles (as well as all other vehicles) during Biden’s presidency, it is possible to do so over time with the help of improved charging infrastructure (another of Biden’s campaign promises). We’ve spent a lot of digital ink talking about rolling out charging infrastructure to the public (primarily through the states), but these federal vehicles are also going to need a lot of charging infrastructure, including Tier 2 and level 3 positions as needed.
A recent press release from EnviroSpark shows us that the deployment of this special infrastructure for electric vehicles will soon begin.
EnviroSpark, a Georgia-based electric vehicle (EV) charging company, has won a federal government contract to design and install EV charging stations at sites operated by federal agencies throughout the Southeast US region. United States. The $500 million budget for the project comes from the General Services Administration (GSA), part of a larger national effort to expand electric vehicle infrastructure.
EnviroSpark was not only the highest-ranked small business vendor in the region, which includes 13 states and Puerto Rico, but was also the only selected vendor to receive an overall technical rating of “excellent.” EnviroSpark says this is due to its team’s extensive previous experience and past performance on relevant projects. With a business specialization exclusively focused on the construction and installation of electric vehicle infrastructure, there was no better choice for this project than EnviroSpark. Sure, EnviroSpark would say that in their press release, but getting the GSA to pick it over the rest bears repeating here.
“It is an honor to be selected to participate in such an important and far-reaching project,” said Aaron Luque, co-founder and CEO of EnviroSpark. “Being named the highest rated company out of all the nominees is truly a testament to all the hard work and dedication of the EnviroSpark team over the past 8 years, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The GSA’s “one-stop-shop” initiative is designed to help the federal fleet transition to a fully emission-free vehicle fleet. As part of this, the GSA has established government-wide Indefinite Quantity Design-Build and Build (IDIQ) contracts for Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) to be installed at Federal locations. nationwide with no problem.
“We are thrilled to be part of this federal initiative to improve electric vehicle infrastructure in the region and the country,” said EnviroSpark co-founder and director of government affairs Stephanie Luque. “In order to increase adoption rates of electric vehicles and reap the benefits of reduced carbon emissions, we must first build charging infrastructure. EnviroSpark is committed to this mission, and we are proud to partner with the GSA to provide access to electric vehicles for federal agencies.
EnviroSpark’s commitment under the contract will include:
- DEV Install
- Feasibility studies, site assessments
- Construction and design-build
- Coordination of the work of the utility company
- Electrical infrastructure upgrades as needed
- Site work services (including trenches, bollards, signage, pavement markings, etc.)
- Equipment testing and commissioning
EnviroSpark, a turnkey EV solutions contractor, was selected to conduct various studies, tests, and inspections to design, build, and implement infrastructure improvements at federal agencies in the region. This includes the installation of charging stations.
So far, EnviroSpark is responsible for more than 5,500 charging ports scattered among commercial customers like Georgia Power and Tesla, Electrify America, and local government entities like cities and municipalities, but this is its first federal contract.
