Hertz has partnered with BP to place EV chargers in existing Hertz locations nationwide.
Hertz announced today that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with BP to place the company’s Pulse EV charging stations at Hertz sites. This is part of Hertz’s broader plan to aggressively electrify and provide customers with the best electric vehicle rental experience.
Hertz has become well known for its huge electric vehicle fleet orders from Tesla (100,000 vehicles), Polestar (65,000 vehicles) and, more recently, General Motors (175,000 vehicles). Now they hope to offer charging for these vehicles at their existing locations, which will make it easier for customers to use their rented EVs and help keep EVs charged while they are between rental reservations.
Although the press release did not mention details regarding the number of EV chargers, the number of locations or an implementation timeline, Hertz did provide some basic information on where they currently offer EV rentals. . 500 Hertz locations in 38 U.S. states currently offer electric vehicle rentals, and that number is only expected to grow as the brand plans to be a quarter electric by 2024.
BP sees this partnership as a fantastic way to launch BP Pulse in the US with a significant expansion of service locations, primarily because BP Pulse at Hertz locations will be open to the public for charging. In a statement for the press release, Bernard Looney, chief executive of BP, said: “It’s great to partner with Hertz – quite simply, they are one of the biggest names on the road. Working together to provide charging facilities and design solutions, we believe we can take the electric vehicle driving experience to the next level for US customers. And this is just the beginning of bp pulse in the US.
As Hertz pushes ahead with its aggressive electrification plans, it could prove to be an industry leader. Its implementation of EV chargers will no doubt only help them attract customers, many of whom may be new to EVs and can be nervous about charging and its availability.
