Solar Standard is expanding its community solar portfolio in Rhode Island with the acquisition of a total of 6.2 MW of projects. The two ground-based community solar projects – West Main 1 and West Main 2 – developed by Trina ISBU, a business unit of Trina Solar, is located in Portsmouth. All electricity generated will be contracted using the state’s Virtual Net Metering program.
Rhode Island has some of the highest electricity prices in the country, and they are expected to continue to rise. These new projects are in National Grid territory with a mix of subscribers including state agencies, quasi-state agencies, municipalities, public housing authorities, state schools, private schools, organizations to non-profit, federal government and hospitals.
“Partnerships in this industry are critical to the success of solar projects,” said Michael Streams, Chief Development Officer of Standard Solar. “We are honored to be a trusted development partner of Trina, particularly in helping Rhode Island grow its clean energy footprint, and we look forward to expanding our mutually beneficial relationship as our company embarks on its next phase of growth. . »
“We are committed to developing similar systems to expand customer access to local, clean and affordable community solar power,” said Linhui Sui, President of Trina Solar’s International Solar System Business Unit.
These projects will help achieve Rhode Island’s primary goal of meeting 100% of the state’s electricity demand with renewable energy by 2030. Together, the networks are expected to produce approximately 8,600 MWh of clean energy per year.

We have a ton of video interviews and additional content on our YouTube page. Recently we debuted Power forward! — a collaboration with BayWa re to discuss high-level industry topics as well as best practices/trends for running a solar business today.
Our longer side project is Field — in which we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technologies and ideas so you don’t have to. We discuss everything from residential trackless bridge attachment and home solar financing at large-scale energy storage value stacking and new utility house solar micro-grids + storage.
