Tesla, the world’s largest electric car maker, has recently made notable strides in expanding its electric vehicle lineup with new vehicles.
The company has made a new world production record in Q3 (365,923)although its total installed manufacturing capacity remains at just under 2 million units per year.
The main change put forward by the manufacturer is that the Tesla Semi The Class 8 all-electric truck has entered the “first production” phase in Nevada, while the Tesla CybertruckStatus changed from “in development” to “tooling” (at the Giga Texas factory).
Meanwhile, Tesla Model Y production at two new factories – in Germany and Texas – continues to ramp up.
Tesla noted:
“We remain focused on ramping up vehicle production as quickly as possible, increasing the weekly build rate in Fremont and Shanghai and steadily advancing through production ramps in Berlin and Texas.”
In the previous four quarters, Tesla produced and delivered over 1.2 million BEVs, while the total is over 3.2 million.
Let’s summarize what we know about Tesla’s manufacturing plants.
Tesla’s Fremont factory has the potential to produce up to 550,000 Model 3/Y-model per year, plus up to 100,000 updates Models/Model X.
Tesla says the factory is ramping up production:
“We continue to implement solutions to further increase the production rate at Fremont.”

Tesla Fremont Factory: General Assembly of Models S and X
Tesla’s first gigafactory is a lithium-ion battery cell factory, which manufactures cylindrical type 2170 battery cells in partnership with Panasonic, as well as other products (energy storage systems and parts).
Near the construction siteTesla has also started production of the Tesla Semi Class 8 electric trucks, which were previously unassigned and “in development”.
According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, around 50,000 Tesla Semis could be produced each year at some point in 2024.
“The initial phase of Tesla Semi deliveries is expected to begin in December 2022.”
The Tesla Giga factory in Shanghai has the potential to produce over 750,000 Model 3s/Model Ys per year.
The factory remains the company’s export center and, after a major renovation, set a new monthly record in September. In August, the site team celebrated the production of the 1 millionth electric car.
“After a slowdown in production in the second quarter, the third quarter production rate in Shanghai surpassed previous quarterly records. Our Shanghai plant remains our main export hub, supplying vehicles to most markets outside of China. North America.”

Tesla Giga Shanghai (Tesla Gigafactory 3)

Tesla Giga Shanghai: General Meeting (Tesla Q2 2022 report)
Tesla Giga Berlin in Grünheide near Berlin in Germany has been producing the Tesla Model Y (powered by cylindrical Type 2170 battery cells) since March 2022.
In October, the company announced that 2,000 Tesla Model Ys were produced in a single week for the very first time. The capacity is estimated at more than 250,000 per year.
At some point in the future, the company intends to start production of a new version powered by cylindrical type 4680 battery cells.
“Thanks to a strong improvement in the production rate towards the end of the third quarter, our team in Germany produced more than 2,000 Model Y vehicles in a single week using 2,170 cells. The production rate progress at the plant is met our expectations.”

Tesla Giga Berlin (Tesla Gigafactory 4)

Tesla Giga Berlin (Tesla Gigafactory 4): Model Y General Assembly
Tesla Giga Texas in Austin, Texas began production of the Tesla Model Y in April 2022. This version of the Model Y features 4680 type cylindrical cells and a structural battery.
However, as the supply of 4680 type cells is limited, the factory now also produces the “legacy” version with 2170 type batteries and non-structural batteries.
To boost production, Tesla prepares local production of type 4680 batteries.
“The production rate of Texas-built Model Ys continued to increase in each month of the quarter. The total number of 4,680 cells produced (cells sent for training) increased 3 times sequentially in the third trimester.”
In mid-September, Tesla celebrated the production of the 10,000th Model Y in Texas. The plant’s overall production capacity is estimated at more than 250,000 per year.
The all-electric Tesla Cybertruck, which will be produced in Texas, is now in “tooling” status, after some delays in the past.
