In this blog post, we examine the policies and positions of Representative Val Demings, the Democratic candidate for the US Senate in Florida. Also in this series, we profile Senator Marco Rubio, incumbent Republican candidate for the United States Senate in Florida. Election Day is November 8, 2022 and also includes an election for Governor of the State of Florida between Democratic candidate Representative Charlie Crist and the Republican incumbent Governor Ron DeSantis.
Val Demings grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She became a social worker, then a police officer in the city of Orlando. She served 27 years in the department and became chief in 2007. She was elected to Congress in 2016.
Renewable energy and energy efficiency
Deming representative opposed to President Trump’s efforts to weaken the Clean Power Plan. She also presented the Reclaiming the Solar Supply Chain Law to increase solar energy production, and voted for the Inflation Reduction Act which includes nearly $370 billion in clean energy investments.
Climate change
Deming representative opposed to former President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. She also backed the bipartisan infrastructure billwhich includes funding to build climate-resilient infrastructure in Florida.

Rep. Demings voted for the Cut Inflation Actwhich includes funding for energy efficiency and clean energy programs for low-income residences.

Congresswoman Demings has opposed President Trump’s plan to expand offshore oil drilling in 2018.
